A Ghost Town

The story we've been told by some locals here is that this used to be a railroad town, back in the late 1800's-early 1900's.
Then for some reason they closed the railroad down and slowly the town died. It was really neat to see all the old houses and other structures.
We were all imagining a thriving small town back in it's prime....

Beautiful Badlands Sunset!

Theodore Roosevelt

We're so lucky to have such a great hands on learning experience anytime we want, at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We've explored the Badlands, Museum, and anything to do with Teddy Roosevelt, our 26th president. My daughter is really fasicinated with all of his accomplishments. Hunter, Cowboy, Soldier, Author but more importantly he was also Homeschooled!

This is Madison with her completed report on Thedore Roosevelt, which I must say she did a fabulous job on!

Way to go Maddie!

Boys and their Noses!!

This weekend we had a scare when Jackson decided to stick small round crackers up his nose! He had been eating them and then came up to me a little while later and said, "Nose, MA". I looked up his nose and found one up his nose! I almost began to panic, but quickly calmed myself because I didn't want him to see me upset and then it turn into a sheer battle to try and get it out! I yelled for Madison to go get Daddy! He came rushing in and tells Maddie to get the tweezers. (almost like we were planning on own mini urgent surgery. So, Jackson's in my lap. Clay's got the tweezers but his hands are so big that I told him just let me do it. It took me a couple trys but I got it out and Jackson thought it was funny to see that come out of his nose. I tried to stop the laughter ( and hide mine) telling him you can't put things up your nose. Clay then looked at me and said "Dang Baby, you did that a pro!" Haha....

After posting on Facebook I realized a lot of other people have gone through the same thing. My Maw Maw told me a story that her and my great grandmother were babysitting my Uncle Scott and all his boy cousins, when they discovered that all the boys had stuck peas in their noses and ears and her and my great grandmother had to sit there with all those boys, using tweezers and get them out. She said it was an absolute riot!!

He's A Stud!

I have a love for the outdoors and I'm thankful to have a family that enjoys it as much as I do.
My husband was off work on Wednesday so we decided to take a trip to Medora.
We went to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park-South Unit. And, it was amazing!
Whitetail & Mule deer, Elk, Buffalo, Wild horses, Turkey, and praire dogs were all out and some gave us some incredible pictures and video!
Here's a video of a stud deer that was unbelievably photogenic :D

Our Thankful Tree

What are you Thankful for?

This was a wonderful activity to talk with my kids about what they were thankful for. It really touched my heart to hear my daughter tell me the things that she appreciated. And, even Jackson included a few things :D

Here's how we made it:

Supplies:

Construction paper
scissors
marker

First, Madison traced her hands on several different colors of construction paper.

Then we cut them all out.

Then, we thought about all the things we are thankful for and wrote them on the hands (leaves!) and put them on our bulletin board.

Yellow King Corn Craft

All we did for this craft was cut out green & yellow construction paper which makes the corn & husk, then glue them together. Then we took some popcorn and glued them onto the corn. The my daughter painted some of the popcorn red. Our homeschool lessons this month have included learning about indians, corn, The Mayflower & Pilgrims. So, this activity was great!

Indian Hat Craft

Our Indian Hat Craft

Supplies Needed:
white construction paper
5 or 6 different colors of construction paper
scissors
glue

This was a quick craft that the kids loved!

Cut strips of white construction, a couple of inches thick. Take two of the strips and glue one of the ends together. The cut the other different colors into the shapes of feathers. Glue the feathers to the white long strip.

After you get all of the feathers glued to the white strip glue the other ends together to make a circle. And, whala! Your indian hat!

Here's my little indians!
