30 day Mom Challenge!

Like most Mom's, I already try to do most of these things.
But, I am commiting 100% to do all of these in 30 days. Join me in this challenge because after all being a Mom is the most important, also most rewarding job we could ever have!
Our children are the most important people in our lives, but sometimes with life we get busy and forget to stop and smell the roses with our children.
Something as simple as this checklist can motivate us to be an even better Mom!!

Salt Dough Handprint Keepsakes

These little handprints were very cheap and very easy to make and make great gift ideas for parents or grandparents!

Salt Dough Recipe:

1 cup salt
1 cup flour
1/2 cup of water

Mix all ingredients together and knead until smooth. If it's too sticky, add some more flour. If it's too dry and starts to crumble, add a tiny bit of water. It really is very easy!

Madison and Jackson love mixing the dough and getting it ready to work with. It does tend to get a little messy, but that's what they love about it! It's a great sensory play experience, as well as measuring and strengthing those little hands.

After mixing I divided for the two of them. They each picked out a color. Jackson picked blue and Madison red. So, we added a couple drops of food coloring to each one and they squished it around until it looked the way they wanted. (You could also not do food coloring and paint after baked and cooled.) Madison's was pretty much all blended. Jackson's looked blue tie dyed. We rounded the edges and smoothed the top to make the perfect canvas made for those precious little hands. Then, they each pressed down their hands onto their dough.

Bake at 100 degrees for 3 hours.....and voila! Salt Dough Handprint Keepsakes :D

Pheasant Hunting!

This weekend we went pheasant hunting. It was a great experience and we all loved it! There will definitely be more pheasant hunting coming soon. We got permission from a local farmer who owns several thousands of acres to hunt on his property anytime. That includes pheasants, mule deer, praire dogs, coyotes & cougars! So, Clay got his friend Cameron and one of his sons, who is Madison's age to go with us. He has a trained bird dog and thought Barbie could learn a few bird hunting lessons from her. Clay shot a big pheasant with 25 inch tail feathers and 1 inch spurs! Cameron also got a pheasant. Even though we didn't get our bag limit of 3 for the day, it was still a fun experience! Madison found a big 4 point muley set of horns also! She was super excited about that and carried them around most of the day.
It was a great day spent with family and new friends!

Fall unit update!

We are halfway through our fall unit and it's going great! Last week we studied pumpkins and this week it's apples. All of the subjects are themed around these wonderful fruits! She's been learning about the different types of sentences and their punctuation. She can label apple and pumpkins and their lifecycles. She's wrote short stories on 'how to pick a pumpkin' and later this week will write a short story about 'my favorite apple flavor'. We've also been reviewing from our last unit, adverbs. Our math has focused a lot on place values, pumpkin seed measurements, adding & subtracting hundred's. On the funner side of things, we've dissected a pumpkin, painted pumpkins, toasted pumpkin seeds, went to a pumpkin patch and made pumpkin bread! This week we're going to do apple stamping, enjoy juicy apples and dissect an apple! The following weekend we will be going to an apple orchard and picking our very own apples!!

Sunday at the Park!

Today I decided it would be a great day to wear the kids out! We went to the play park and they unleashed their energy. I have high hopes that tonight they'll go to sleep early and sleep all night! Occasionally Jackson is still waking up and getting into bed with us in the wee hours of the morning! I know, I know a habit we must break....but he's my baby boy and he wants his Momma ;-)
