Montana & The Badlands

Last weekend we went to Montana for the day. Lucky us we're actually only 20 minutes from the state line! We went the the Makoshika State Park. We saw the beautiful badlands, which I have to say is absolutely breathtaking and a little scary at the same time! I am afraid of heights and as we got higher and higher into the badlands, the more nervous I got. But, my sweet husband kept reassuring me that everything would be fine and it would be worth it. And, it was! The views were stunning. We've never seen anything like it before. It's rugged beauty is amazing. The badlands is known for being one of the richest lands for collecting fossils. Archeologists have found lots of dinosaur fossil, including Trex, Mammoth, Triceratops and more! We didn't really know that until we got to the state park and they had a museum with some of their discoveries! We were also informed that the reason the 'Badlands' look the way the do is from the strong winds that cut into the hills shaping it into what it is. Little history lesson>> The Lakota people (Indians of the Great plains) gave the land the name 'mako sica' which means 'land bad'. They gave it this name because of the excessive temperatures, lack of water, and rugged terrain.
